The Texas
Tech Athletic Training Facility is the largest vinyl polyester
fabric air supported structure roof in the world. Fiberglass
has been more traditional until Texas Tech University, along
with ASATI, constructed this Dupont Tedlar sports facility. The
fabric is highly translucent, providing over 1000-foot candle of
natural light within the structure during daytime hours. The
total roof structure is constructed with a dual wall system,
which provides excellent thermal insulation without sacrificing
the natural light penetration for allowing the facility to be
used without the high energy cost for operating artificial
lighting.
ASATI
engineered, manufactured, and installed this facility in 1985.
The total 100,000 square foot structure roof was manufactured in
three sections. The entire roof structure was installed and
ready for use in three days after site delivery. The roof
structure final assembly weights 30,000 lbs. and is engineered
to withstand Lubbock, Texas code wind speeds of up to 120 mph. |
